Eyes flared, Lilith winked into the mirror and swiped Streetwalker Scarlet across her puckered lips. Then a dab of her favourite scent, Rose of Gibraltar, on her wrists and behind her ears. She slipped her feet into three-inch red Louboutins and straightened her slate blue toga, draping the train over her back.
She’d been waiting for this night all month. Her employer, Asmodeus Inc., held an employee event every month. In September, it was ax throwing, where management seemed unimpressed with the CEO’s picture pinned to the target. In August it was paintballing, where the staff took great pleasure in shooting the CEO in effigy. And July was a weekend at a cottage country resort, where a cardboard cutout of the CEO stood in for the man himself. Of course, that was the only way he attended these events.
Tonight, according to the rumour mill, he would actually be in attendance. At the company Hallowe’en soirée. And it was the talk of the entire company, too. Lilith, along with everyone else, couldn’t wait to meet him. Or even see him. The ever elusive head of Asmodeus Inc was like a wraith, moving silently through the company, keeping everything running smoothly and building the business into the powerhouse it was.
“All right, sweet pea.” Lilith’s father directed her to stand between the life-size figures of Mike Myers and Freddy Krueger on their front lawn. Pennywise the clown held a red balloon and wielded a knife on the porch behind her....
