A shiver ran down Frank’s spine as he made himself comfortable in the back of the car, like someone walking across his grave, as his Nonna would say. Ball of dread settled into his stomach. Gloria Winters would be the death of him one day, he knew it.
“Clive, just in time.” Not happy with the grunt from the front seat, Frank glared at the shadow behind the wheel. He stared out the window, brows creased. “What’d the coppers say?”
“Clive?” Anger, along with worry, tightened his chest as the car lurched to the left. Then took a hard right, pulling up in front of College Park. Frank fought the panic threatening to overtake him. “Why are we here?”
“To rescue Gloria, of course.” Tony turned around with a grin. “That was your plan, right, Capo?”
The back doors opened and two musclemen squeezed Frank into the middle seat. He swallowed hard, turning to his left. He aimed for a smile, but ended up grimacing at the men who felt he’d betrayed them.
“Dom. Come on.” Frank appealed to his men’s sense of honour. “You know me. I’d never turn my back on my girl.”
“Like you didn’t turn on Tony?” Dom scoffed, then punched his capo in the face. He may have been in charge, but he was no leader. The only reason they followed him was sitting behind the wheel. “Let’s go get your girl, Tony.”
They left a trail of blood as they dragged the nearly unconscious...
