Tony pulled up to the next corner, pulled a u-turn to head east on Front Street. Gloria waved to the doorman as they passed the Royal York before turning north onto Yonge Street. He took a hard left onto Dundas and then a right onto Bay Street. Before long, they pulled up in front of a seemingly abandoned building.
Tony left the car idling and hurried around to help Frank and Gloria out onto the sidewalk. He blushed under Gloria’s shy smile and looked at his boss.
“Thanks for everything tonight, Tony,” Frank slipped his henchman a fifty and a wink, “have some fun tonight on me. Pick us up here tomorrow morning at nine-thirty. I’ve got a meeting at ten at the office.”
Tony smiled and thanked Frank, promising to have a wild time on his dime. Frank’s eyes narrowed, then cleared up, and he smiled, pretending not to see Tony’s barely concealed look of longing at Gloria. The taller man nodded to Frank and pulled away, knowing his most loved adventure tucked her hand into Frank’s elbow and walked towards the club.
Music and the sound of a raucous party filtered through the walls and floor as they pulled the door open. Low and pulsing music vibrated through the air. If you didn’t know there was a speakeasy within the building, you’d wonder where it was coming from.
Gee, the place is rocking tonight. Hope they get that music under control. We don’t want the fuzz showing up....
