Jack leant forward to select from the box. Swishing around in it with a grin, until he pulled a bit of paper out and threw it at Beth without even looking at it himself first.
She caught it on instinct. Barely even thinking of the next round when she was still shaking from the last. From Caleb’s kiss and his promises made. Her chest tight with fear, resistance, because she couldn’t let him see that promise through. She wouldn’t let him.
Damp underwear and a burning between her legs suggested otherwise. A wanting, down low. A need for the darkness in his words she could not deny and which her entire body yearned towards with a breathless gasp.
No. She swallowed that back. She shouldn’t want that stuff. She had to be stronger about it. Maybe her ex-girlfriend had been toxic, but the woman had only put into words all the worries Beth had long carried herself. That it was wrong to feel like she felt. To want what she wanted. After that awful night where she broke the guy’s nose, she’d listened maybe more than she should’ve to the woman. About the wrongness of the things she felt. That she was screwed up in the head for it.
Never let anyone tell you your desires are wrong.
She frowned at the bit of paper in her hands and couldn’t figure out what to think.
“Beth? Hello? Still with us?”
Jack’s voice brought her back, amused and knowing....
